Happy New Year to all!

I flew back to Dijon last Sunday for my second term here. I was very reluctant to leave everyone as I'd had a lovely Christmas holiday which at two weeks was far too short. However I cheered up over the next couple of days as the friends I made last term returned.

So last night we went out to Dijon's karaoke bar. It was the first time I went, and I noticed with amusement that the French take this pastime seriously - many of the people up there had evidently rehearsed (especially the two girls singing "Hero" by Mariah Carey - with turn-taking and everything!). Fortunately we redressed the balance a bit when five of us went up to sing Hotel California - the overall tunelessness* of our group was met with an amused and pleased response at the end of our performance, and we taught them the true meaning and spirit of karaoke, which is of course to be more crap than good!

Later on someone thought it would be good to go to a club, so we set off for what Peter assured us would only be a twenty minute walk...

So an hour and a half later we got back to our Résidence, having realised both that Peter is a filthy LIAR and that no-one knew where we were going in the first place, so we defaulted to going home. Walked from 1.30am to 3am. I would have been fit to be tied, but out of sheer luck, earlier that night I had been straightening my hair for too long and didn't have time to change my low-heeled boots for my stiletto boots - a serendipity for which I was very grateful later.

Speaking of the boots, they are the fruit of the fantastic fun I had in the January sales on the day after Boxing Day** with my sister. Have a picture:-

or two:-

\o/ yay for fantastic boots! Oh I do love shoes so... Sorry if the pictures aren't the same size, but I uninstalled Outlook Express the other day (stay with me, I'm getting somewhere) and it turns out that Picture Shit! 2001 won't even open without Outlook Express being installed! How rubbish is that? Damn you, Microsoft. Fortunately I know leet ways to resize in Paint and save to .jpg without losing quality... So they have not won yet. >:)

Today I bought blood-red Doc Martens in the sales which started today in Dijon. I bought them in Galéries Lafayette, which is the French equivalent of Selfridges - for a start, Galéries Laf*** has the biggest reductions on DMs, and for another thing, whereas Gal**** happily stocks Doc Martens, Selfridges totally never would. Over here you can get Doc Martens and good hats in mainstream shops. In other words, the shops over here have recognised my cool and that of Al also.

Boot photo, you say? OK. Older black DMs also shown, for comparison of newness and unbashed status of the new ones:-

**yeah, why are they still called January sales when now almost every shop starts them on the 26th December? What is up with that?
***as we affectionately call it
****as I cannot be bothered typing that all again

Oh good God, Manchester city centre was hell today. I went in with Al, and not even with the intention of doing any shopping - I was there to return a library book to the uni library (which it turns out is closed til the 4th of January, when I'm nicely re-ensconced in France. Effort!). But omg, the city was so so full of people. Fat people, slow people, stupid people, scallies with earrings big enough for me to fit my hand through and rip off said jewellery (but I refrained, sadly).

Seems everyone decided to go into town today!

In other news, I've had a lovely holiday but it's far too short for me to do all the things* I want to do. I mean, I came home on the 18th of December and go back on the 2nd of January, whereas my friend who is at the University of Poitiers came home on the 16th of December and goes back on the 9th of January! It's all evil, I tell thee. Oh well. I get Easter holidays next semester, a visit from my mum some point in February, and a visit from Al some time in May, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Apart from one thing. Dialup. Got used to ADSL again during this holiday, and omg wtf, cba w/56k.

Teh end.

home!

Yay, so so lovely to be home and see Al and my family again. ^___^ The Christmas tree is up and the internet is less shit than what I put up with in my hall, and it's happy and nice and warm woo!

The plane was tiny - two seats on one side of the aisle, and one on the other. I could've lain down across it and touched both walls! Flying makes me excited. I press my nose against the glass at takeoff and landing, watching things. I wanna be a pilot now.

I'm going home for Christmas next weekend! Ooh. In other nice news, I've finally made friends in my Residence, the sort of friends who enjoy such pastimes as going out for a drink, or iceskating. \o/ We chat in English most of the time though (there's me, some Americans and a few of various nationalities who speak better English than they do French), so I feel lazy.

However the downside is that next week I have a ten-minute oral exam in Droit Privé. WTF oral exam in Law? Having never had one before, I'm a bit scared. It's a complete unknown in terms of format. Also this course is all over the place in terms of topics, so it's hard to revise... But then I'm out that night, and home on the Saturday. I'm looking forward to this holiday so much :) woo and yay.

[edit] To make this post less lazy, have some photoediting I did. Photoshopped from a food wrapper that said "Cha-Cha" (I'm so cool).

I do believe I'd be a bit more interested in lectures if this were to happen:

That's just too cool. Look how cool! \o/

Although I'm a bit alarmed by the student with blue hair. We can only hope he's hardcore enough to carry it off... Well, anyway, that only happened in Temple University in the US. MTV's fault, apparently. But still cool ^_^

Can you spot the bottle of absinthe?

Please excuse shitty picture quality. I'm having to edit pictures with a work of the Devil that goes by the name of Microsoft Picture It! 2001 (yes, that's an exclamation mark in a product name). Try to feel or understand my pain.
